Degradation of polynuclear aromatic hydrocarbons by two strains of Pseudomonas
The goal of this investigation was to isolate competent polynuclear aromatic hydrocarbons degraders that can utilize polynuclear aromatic hydrocarbons of former industrial sites at McDoel Switchyard in Bloomington, Indiana. Using conventional enrichment method based on soil slurry, we isolated, screened and purified two bacterial species strains PB1 and PB2. Applying the ribotyping technique us...
متن کاملMass Transfer of Polynuclear Aromatic Hydrocarbons from Complex DNAPL Mixtures
Parameters governing the rates of mass transfer of the individual components of four synthetic dense non-aqueous phase liquid (DNAPL) mixtures into the aqueous phase were evaluated. The DNAPL mixtures, composed of toluene and eight polynuclear aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), were designed to serve as models for coal tars and creosotes. The reactor employed provided a relatively stable interface b...
متن کاملPolynuclear Aromatic Hydrocarbons in Port Valdez Shrimp and Sediment
Polynuclear aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) from oil were present in some shrimp from Port Valdez, site of a ballast water treatment facility at the Alyeska Alaska Marine Terminal (AMT). Low-level petrogenic PAH concentrations were generally restricted to shrimp eggs in the vicinity of the AMT and extended along the southern shore of Port Valdez to Anderson Bay. Eggs had greater lipid content than...
متن کاملCatalytic conversion of isophorone to jet-fuel range aromatic hydrocarbons over a MoO(x)/SiO2 catalyst.
For the first time, jet fuel range C8-C9 aromatic hydrocarbons were synthesized in high carbon yield (∼80%) by the catalytic conversion of isophorone over MoO(x)/SiO2 at atmospheric pressure. A possible reaction pathway was proposed according to the control experiments and the intermediates generated during the reaction.
متن کاملAromatic Hydrocarbons Production from Catalysis of Douglas Fir Sawdust Pellets Pyrolysis Vapor over Zeolite Catalyst
The direct catalytic cracking of biomass pyrolysis vapor into aromatics derived from Douglas fir sawdust pellets was tested using an upfront microwave pyrolysis process coupled with a packed-bed catalysis process using a ZSM-5 Zeolite catalyst. A central composite experimental design (CCD) was used to optimize the bio-oil and syngas yields. The effects of temperature and inverse weight hourly s...
